Chiller Noise

The noise generated by air-cooled chillers is a combination of mid to high frequency noise generated by the screw compressors (bottom of the unit) and low frequency noise being generated by the up-blast fans (top of unit).

Chillers are often placed in equipment yards constructed of “hard” cinder block. These hard surfaces create a reverberant sound field which magnifies and redirects noise to the surrounding community.

KINETICS® Solutions

Kinetics Noise Control's sound absorption solutions reduce the adverse reverberant effect caused by chillers and other mechanical equipment.

NOISEBLOCK

NOISEBLOCK™

Double-walled metal panels deliver superior sound absorption (noise reduction) and transmission loss (noise blocking). Assemble into plenums, enclosures, or barrier walls.

System: Sound Absorption/Blocking
NRC1 1.0
STC2 40/43
Installation: Self-Supported
Construction: New or Retrofit
KNP

KNP

Highly durable, abuse resistant perforated metal acoustic panels. Install over existing metal or concrete barriers to reduce reverberation and to lower reflected sound.

System: Sound Absorption
NRC1 0.9
STC2 n/a
Installation: Wall/Ceiling Mounted
Construction: New or Retrofit

KFA-ENV | KBC-ENV

KFA-ENV | KBC-ENV

Acoustic blankets reduce reverberation and block transmission of airborne noise. Cost effective. Easy attachment directly to chain link fences, gates, and equipment yard walls.

System: Sound Absorption/Blocking
NRC1 0.9
STC2 23/33
Installation: Wall/Ceiling Mounted
Construction: New or Retrofit
QuietShield

QuietShield™

QuietShield offers high levels of noise control while allowing equipment to operate at normal temperatures without affecting warranty and provides easy maintenance access.

System: Sound Absorption/Blocking
NRC1 0.8
STC2 29/33
Installation: Self-Supported
Construction: New or Retrofit

1 Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) is the average of coefficients at 250, 500, 1K and 2K Hz, expressed in the nearest integral multiple of 0.05.
2 Sound Transmission Class (STC) is determined by comparing test data with a set of standard STC contours as described in ASTM E413, Standard Classification for Determination of Sound Transmission Class.

PROJECT

Outdoor Air-Cooled Chillers

The noise source is an outdoor air-cooled chiller. Noise is emanating into critical areas: screw compressors (on the bottom of the unit) generate mid/hi frequency noise; Up-blast fans (on the top) generate low frequency noise.
